This is the latest episode of The One Problem podcast interview. Today my guest is Michelle Griffin tells us how to get out there and start building your personal brand.
Hi there. My name is Avil Beckford, and I am the host of the One Problem Podcast. You know that there are tons of problems in the world, but we're going to only focus on one. Why should you get overwhelmed today? My special guest is Michelle Griffin, and she's the founder of Brandthority. Over to you Michelle.

Thank you so much for having me today. And I'm thrilled to be here and to offer my problem and my solution as a personal brand strategist. I'm the founder of Brandthority, where I help people on LinkedIn with their personal brand. People who come to me are scared about one thing, and that's the problem of,
“How do I put myself out there? I have expertise. And I have all these talented gifts that I want to use to help more people. But I'm scared to have to put myself out there. I'm scared what people will think, will judge me. I'm scared of having nothing valuable to say or none to continue.”
I've heard it all. I've heard it from doctors, some lawyers, and consultants. You name it, it's a universal thing, almost. We're scared to put ourselves out there. And that was me too. Here's what you need to do to solve that problem. First, you realize it's not about you when you're putting yourself out there. It's of you, who you are, and what you're doing. What is it to solve a problem?
So, our problem is to help someone else. What you do is take that plunge. Now you are here, and you must be putting yourself out there. Because if no one knows you or knows about you, how do they know you can help them? So, even though you might be an extrovert or an introvert or someone as weird as me, who is an extrovert.
“But it's so private. I don't like to put myself out there on the line.”
You have to do this. You have to take that baby step first by saying, “I am Michelle, here's who I am.”
Michelle Griffin
This is what I do. You decide who you are and what you want to be and what you can talk about. So, you show up online, you use one platform. You don't have to do all the platforms. Show up in one place where you're comfortable. Are you comfortable writing? Or comfortable making videos. If you're comfortable doing a podcast, find what is making you comfortable. And find that person, that one person out there, that avatar. You don't want to pull to everyone. And just start sharing your expertise. Sharing what you know and the solutions to their problems. And do that consistently, because you can't put yourself out there and then come back and hide. That's not how it works.
The more you put yourself out there, the easier it will be. Case in point. Tomorrow marks 250 days straight since I have posted on LinkedIn. I like you, was scared to put myself out there despite being in the marketing, PR, and branding world. So, I figured, so I made the plunge. Now, you don't have to do this every day, but you just have to take a baby step. I'm going to do this at least once a week, and maybe the next week, you do, two. And the next thing is, you go find other people, because when you give you get, so you share your expertise. And then you go out and network with others and comment on their posts and just be helpful.

And I promise you, it will be easier because you will form that network of people that are meant to come to you and you to them. And you will have a community, and it gets easier. It does. I promise you now the thing about it is it's an investment like we do compound interest. Each day that you do this little thing, it's going to make you stronger in your brain and make your business stronger when you realize you don't have to share your entire private life. But you just have to show up to help others.
My goodness, it makes life a lot easier. So, this is just a really quick, abbreviated way that I'm sharing my experience with my clients and myself. There's a whole way to do that. But when you just at least step out and start, I promise you, clarity comes from jumping. I promise you from experiencing for my clients’ results that problem the easy way. Now back to you Avil.
