Hi there. My name is Avil Beckford, and I'm the founder and the host of the One Problem podcast. There are tons of problems in the world. We will not get overwhelmed. We're going to tackle them one problem at a time. As has been the case, most of the people who come on to my podcast, I have some prior relationship with them. I know our guest, Sue Wilhite, and she helps you to solve your tech problems if you are a coach. Over to you Sue.
Sue Wilhite
Thank you, Avil. So here's the problem. You've got a business. You want to connect with your customers, with your clients, and you want to do it in a friendly, warm, welcoming manner. And yet, you just don't know how to do it. You've sent emails. Those haven't worked. You've posted on social media. You've got crickets going off, and nothing else is happening.
What do you do? Well, the solution, and actually, I'm going to give you a little imagination, play here, and have you imagine that you're going into a restaurant. And in the restaurant, the host or hostess greets you and says, Oh, thank you for coming. Welcome.
The One Problem with Sue Wilhite
Where can I seat you? Would you like to be seated next to a window? We have a place over here that's a little more quiet. Which one would you like? Oh, great. Let me put you over here at your table. And what can I get you to drink? Here are the menus and here's our special of the day that we have crafted with love and care just for you.
How does that make you feel? You're warm, you're welcome, you're happy. This is great.
Sue Wilhite
Then let's imagine that you've gone into a different restaurant. And the host or hostess or a waitress or some random person who you don't even know waves to you from the other end of the room and goes, sit yourself where you're like, I'll be over there in a minute. But it's like five minutes before they get over to you. They've barely got a menu. They go, Oh, what do you want to drink? I'll go get it in a minute. It's five minutes later. You have questions about the menu. You can't ask them the question until they get there. That causes further delay. You're hungry, you're thirsty, and you want what you want.

This is how many businesses interact with their clients. And unfortunately, it's not a good feeling for the people on the other end, right? The solution is weird for most people to consider. It's text marketing. Text marketing allows you to have warm human conversations with your customers, with your prospects, so that they feel warm, welcome, and valued for your service or product that you're giving. Let me give a little example. Let's say that you get a text from me that says, Thank you so much for responding to my outreach.
Sue Wilhite
If you want more text, please enter yes, and if you don't, just say stop. Right now, I'm in a conversation. If they say yes, I come back and say, Fantastic. Thank you. Now, can I know what your first name is, because all I have is your number, and you're not a number to me. They respond with their first name, and you continue the conversation.
Now you have their attention, now you have a connection, and you can build on it from there depending on what your business is. I have a client that's a bar. They use this text messaging system to build their Trivia Night. They expanded to having a Ladies' Night, featured cocktails, and even a VIP group. Wouldn't you like to have a business that increases because you've created community, you've created connection, and you have created a customer who loves you for life? Over to you, Avil.
Avil Beckford
Oh my God. I was so engaged when you're talking and when you gave the restaurant example, I could relate to both. And there were times when they ended up not giving me exactly what I wanted. They forgot a special drink I ordered, a special beverage, Jamaican stuff, no alcohol, and they forgot. And you don't want it because it took so long. I'm sure that lots of people will relate to this. And the text message and the back and forth to get permission, the conversation that's going on, even though it's technology, but it works.
Sue Wilhite
Yes. It's using technology to expand your reach to your customer, to expand your relationship with your customer. And that's what's so important. Customers are not numbers. They're not just pieces of data, they're people. They have thoughts and they have feelings. And they want what you offer, perhaps. Nobody does everything for everybody. But if you're engaged to that point, they want something of what you offer, and they're curious. And the best way for you to make that connection is by text messaging and getting in that conversation where you may not be able to be present.
Avil Beckford
Thank you so much, Sue. This has been great.
Sue Wilhite
Thank you, Avil.
