In this episode of The One Problem, Dorothy Vernon-Brown talks to us about how small business owners and entrepreneurs can use marketing automation to grow and scale their businesses.
Hi there. My name is Avil Beckford, and this is the latest episode of The One Problem Podcast. You know that there are tons of problems in the world, but why would anyone want to get overwhelmed? So on this podcast, we tackle one problem at a time, and that's a way for all of us to learn from each other. Today, my very special guest is Dorothy Vernon Brown, and she is a marketing automation strategist and coach. Over to you, Dorothy.
Dorothy Vernon-Brown
Well, hello. I feel so happy to be here, so thrilled. Thank you for having me. I love the concept. So I'm going to go right into it because I know we have limited time. I am in the marketing automation space. I work with business owners, entrepreneurs like coaches, consultants, course creators.
The one problem I see all the time is that a lot of us are still using manual inefficient processes that's costing us time and money to try and grow and scale our business. And what I know for sure is that it is not a scalable model. It's not possible to grow and scale your business using manual processes. My goal here is to show you how we can make your systems become your superstar, so there's no reliance on you in the business or any other person because you have systems and processes in place.

So let's get at it. So the thing is, we all get 24 hours in the day. Typically, if we want to grow, we have to go after more clients. And if we go after more clients, there are more hours that we have to expend serving them and to expand our reach.
Now, the solution with marketing automation is that you can put your repetitive tasks on autopilot, do that, run them automatically, freeing up your time. And every business owner that's what we want. We want to free our valuable time, so we can spend time growing our business on high-value tasks, revenue generating tasks, not a $10 task, but a $1,000 task, a $10,000 task.
Dorothy Vernon-Brown
And that's what marketing automation allows us to do. It frees up our time, so we're not on this hamster wheel, sacrificing family and fitness and whatever else we sacrifice, just trying to keep all the balls in the air we're trying to juggle. So let me tell you why I'm convinced, more than convinced that I got into this many years ago. There are two case studies I want to share with you. One is about this one-man show.
He's a soccer coach. And before he implemented marketing automation, his annual revenue was $40,000, and he recognized he needed to do something about it. He implemented marketing automation. And can you believe his revenue grew to $625,000 in that one year?
So he had zero employees. He was able to hire 16 more employees. He was not able to take vacation days before, now he is able to take 35 vacation days. So now, as we're saying, he was able to work on his business and not in his business. His time was now free. He could take a vacation, go away with his family.
Dorothy Vernon Brown, Using Automation To Grow and Scale a Business
So if people say, you know what, marketing automation is not for me, Avil. It is for big companies. That is further from the truth. Marketing automation – there is a service for every budget and every type of entrepreneur right now. There is a cleaning company. They do commercial cleaning. Before they automated their system – they are a little ahead. It's a family business with two employees. Their annual revenue was, I think, about $1.2 million. They started out with no automation, and they knew they needed something else to grow and scale.
Dorothy Vernon-Brown
When they implemented their automation system, they grew to $3.75 million, eight employees later., 40 vacation days. And that is the power of marketing automation when you leverage it, and it doesn't matter the size of the company.
So what can you automate? You can automate your leads, you can automate sales and you can automate events. I know a lot of business owners, they like to do webinars and workshops and so on. Do you know that automation can take away the heavy lifting? I'm doing one at the end of the month, how to host virtual events to generate leads.
It's going to do the heavy lifting for my registration, for my confirmation, for my follow up, for everything. That heavy lifting is off my plate. So now my time is free to do more important things. And that's the beauty of automation, when you leverage it, it frees your time, helps you to grow and gives you back the things that you love to do. That's why most of us started our business and that's why I think it is the solution for business owners and entrepreneurs.
Avil Beckford
Thank you so much, Dorothy. This is so important, because a lot of people, small business owners and entrepreneurs, have this concept of working 24/7 and that's a sure way to burnout. So, if they can automate some of these repetitive tasks and focus on the value-added stuff, then that can take their business to a whole new level.
Dorothy Vernon-Brown
Indeed. And that's what I've experienced and that's what I've seen.
Avil Beckford
Thank you so much.
Dorothy Vernon-Brown
You're most welcome, Avil. Happy to have been here.
