Book Bite: You'll always face resistance so do the work and push through. People can see the awesomeness in others but not in themselves. Be a member of your fan club. Change your thoughts, change your life. Act as if it's impossible to fail.
Participating in the read 30 books in 30 day reading challenge has been an interesting experience for me. This reading challenge is about tackling your pile of to-be-read nonfiction books. I’ve been doing a reasonable job, but I haven’t read enough books that span multiple disciplines yet.
Now that I’ve read about 17 books or so I can see themes emerging and it’s a wonderful thing. In Non-Obvious by Rohit Bhargava he provides a model for the reader to synthesize information to see what others miss. I’ve always known that the content in that book was a game changer, but more so now. Certain themes are emerging across the books, but when I actually synthesize the information among the books I’m sure I’ll be able to see what others can’t.
So far I’ve discovered some great ideas to apply to my personal and professional life. But I haven’t found anything earth shattering yet. This tells me a couple of things. First, as was my original intent, I need to diversify my reading so I’m exposed to new thoughts. Second, I need to set aside the time to start combining ideas. I think it makes more sense for me though to focus more on diversifying what I’m reading.
What is You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero About?
The main idea in You Are a Badass®: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero is for you to stop self-sabotage because it prevents you from getting what you want in life. You’re forced to work from home. Many people are taking stock of their lives. You know the changes that you need to make. But perhaps you’re procrastinating. Sincero says procrastination is self-sabotage. Don't wait, get out of your head, and take action.
With the main idea in mind, decide to change your life. Be clear about what makes you happy and what you want. Do the things that make you uncomfortable because that’s when true growth in your life will happen. Stay open, doing the things that you’ve never done. You’re awesome, so share your awesomeness. There are unlimited possibilities waiting for you to explore. Take some calculated risks.
Most people live their lives based on other people’s beliefs. Stop that. Everything you want is available to you. Take decisive action to get what you want in life. There is nothing new in You Are a Badass, but Jen Sincero has her unique way of delivering her message. And that's a good thing because the way she says things may be exactly what some people are looking for.
Sincero recommends that you figure out what you love, then do more of it. The piece of advice is great because of its simplicity. During the world crisis, it's the perfect time to figure out what's important to you. She also recommends that you invest in yourself. One of the best things you can do is to improve yourself. I'm on board with that. And the reading challenge helps you to do that. However be conscious of what you absorb – the books you read, lectures you listen to, the people with whom you surround yourself, and so on.
I laughed so hard when I read that you should love yourself more than your drama. We live in an abundant universe. Therefore it's important to give and share your gifts with others. A funny thing happens when you do that because the more you give the more you get.
Start to take action to live your best life. Don't wait. Procrastination is a form of self-sabotage. It's better to get something done than to waste time perfecting it. Once again perfectionism is mentioned. You can improve by iterating. This reminds me of Little Bets.
