The Strategic Reading Challenge is not easy to complete, but it is worth the effort. The key word is that it is a challenge, so you will have to push yourself to complete it. I created the reading challenge to help people become more marketable and valuable in the workplace. This will make you less vulnerable to automation. I broke down the reading challenge into 12 months to help you to master key workplace skills.

The Strategic Reading Challenge is very different from other reading challenges. A major part of it is learning and mastering a list of professional skills. And the reading challenge is not just about reading books. It is also about digesting the the content of the book, so that you can profit from the books that you read. It teaches you how to learn from books. To help you, I recommend that you take notes by hand while reading, so that you can record key information. And after you finish reading a book, review your notes, then extract the five big ideas.
After you have read five books, start to combine the ideas from all the books you read that month. From doing background research on curating ideas from the books you read, one important thing I learned is to tie ideas to a human need. This is critical if you want to profit from reading books. The most successful people who profit from reading have found a way to tie their ideas to a human need. They fill a need.

This month we are reading men, and like last month, we are reading from different genres. Why not read books that men from different generations wrote? This adds another level of diversity to the reading challenge.

- Read an autobiography/biography of a man that a man wrote.
- Read a science fiction book a man wrote.
- Read a murder mystery a man wrote.
- Read a classic written by a man.
- Read a book that deals with a serious topic that a man wrote.
- Each week, read a technology article from a well-respected journal/magazine.

The Strategic Reading Challenge is a reading challenge for adults. It shows you how to use a reading challenge to improve your career. You are reading books for career development. But you will also discover some of the best books for personal development as well. At the end of the challenge, you will find that you have changed because of the books that you read.
You are also reading to profit from the books you read, therefore, it is important to make note of insights as you read. Write down your reactions to what you are reading. And perhaps do what I do when I read – I write down how I intend to apply what I am learning from the book.

I know that I am repeating myself here, but when reading each of the five books for this month, please take detailed notes to ensure that you remember more of what you learn. Review your notes, extracting the five big ideas. At the end of the month nine, start combining the 25 ideas in unique ways to generate hybrid ideas that are more encompassing. Is there a way you can connect the combined ideas to a human need?
Your goal is to learn skills you need for a job today. Your goal is also to learn about future jobs demand. Take a look at the list of skills and abilities you have to master, how do your current skills stack up? What are the skills gap? Do you have to take action to get back on track? To master your newfound skills, you have to use them. Why not teach them to a friend or colleague?
