Part One: Liz Palmer – Introduction 

Avil Beckford: In a couple of sentences, tell me a little bit about yourself.

 The Ultimate Guide to Champagne

Liz Palmer: I’m a wine journalist based in Toronto, Canada. For the past three years, I’ve been writing my first book “The Ultimate Guide to Champagne”. During that time, I’ve travelled to the region and have interviewed hundreds of people. I’m now happy to say that the book is now published and I’m in process of marketing it globally.

Avil Beckford: What’s a typical day like for you?

Liz Palmer: All I can say is right now it’s quite hectic!

I check my emails first thing in the morning.  I move on to social media marketing and check my Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook accounts to follow-up with any questions or comments; in between I walk my dog. Moving on to writing wine-related posts for the day for my websites, then it’s time for lunch and walking my dog (this is when I get more inspiration and ideas).

In the afternoon, I follow-up on important emails and check my Amazon accounts for book sales and testimonials.  Because I’m currently in the process of book launch events in Paris, Toronto and New York, I have a meeting planner who meets with me in the afternoon and we work out the logistics and any problems that may arise. Thereafter, I focus on book marketing across all social media platforms and windup the day with checking emails.

Part Two: Liz Palmer – Career

Avil Beckford: How did mentors influence your life?

Liz Palmer: There have been many mentors that influenced me throughout the past few years. They have helped me grow both professionally and personally, and it’s been such a privilege to meet some of them in person. 

Avil Beckford: What’s one core message you received from your mentors?

Liz Palmer: For me, I’m lucky to have established multiple mentoring relationships. They have all assisted me to grow in different aspects. 

Avil Beckford: What big steps did you take to succeed in your field?

Liz Palmer: Network – network – network.  Don’t be afraid to approach someone at an event and introduce yourself.

Part Three: Liz Palmer – Life

Avil Beckford: What are three events that helped to shape your life?

Liz Palmer:

1. The birth of my two children.
2. Wine studies.
3. Friends and family.

Avil Beckford: What are five life lessons that you have learned so far?

Liz Palmer:

1. Take joy in the little things.
2. I can’t please everyone.
3. My health is important.
4. Spending time in nature to refuel.
5. What I resist persists and what I focus on expands and grows!

Avil Beckford: Which one book had a profound impact on your life? What was it about this book that impacted you so deeply?

Liz Palmer: My first book “The Ultimate Guide to Champagne” only because I poured my heart and soul into this book and worked day and night (almost) the past three years to get this book published.

I’ve gone through two publishing houses, used three editors and two book designers. Not only has it been my sole project these past few years, my adult children have been part of the process.  They have both travelled with me to the Champagne region and assisted in the French translation, photography and note taking – It’s been a family affair!
