In the third episode of Read with Avil, I explored something close to my heart: the importance of turning ideas and knowledge from books into action. While I usually highlight specific books, this time I felt compelled to reflect on a deeper question: How can we truly benefit from the books we read?
The Wake-Up Call
Recently, I watched a video by Dan Henry, who shared how reading and applying ideas from just four books helped him make over $30 million. Two weeks after watching the video, I realized it was a watershed moment for me. Two of the books he mentioned were ones I had read years ago. Yet, I hadn’t achieved a similar transformation. This realization forced me to reflect on the gap between learning and achieving.
I’ve always believed in applying what I learn, but I realized I could push myself further. Henry’s story drove home the point. Knowledge alone isn’t enough—it’s action that makes the difference. And not just any action. I needed to take the kind of actions millionaires take. But first I needed to learn how they think.
Why Application Matters
Reading a book without applying its lessons is like preparing a gourmet meal and never eating it. It’s a waste of effort and potential. Many successful people credit their achievements to the actionable insights they’ve gleaned — and implemented — from books. So why not you? Why not me?
Elevating My Approach
I’ve taken my advice up a notch. Inspired by the 10 Rich Habits shared in Thomas Corley’s book, I’ve integrated these habits into my daily routine. For instance:
- Self-Improvement: I dedicate time daily to grow and develop.
- Rich Thinking: I’ve committed to saying wealth and abundance affirmations consistently—twice daily now, and I’m working toward three times a day.
This deliberate practice isn’t about simply reading more. It’s also about focusing on applying what truly matters to my goals.
What’s Next?
I’ve started reading 21 Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires by Brian Tracy to dive deeper into the mindset of successful people. I’m revisiting notes I took from previous books to rediscover actionable insights and bring them into my life.
For 2025, my goal is clear. I want it to be a transformative year for both me and you. By incorporating lessons from rich habits and successful mindsets, I aim to make a significant impact. And I hope to inspire you to do the same.
The Challenge for You
As we approach the new year, many of us resolve to read more books. But I challenge you to go further:
- Be Intentional: Read strategically with a focus on what aligns with your goals.
- Take Notes: Extract key ideas from your reading.
- Act on Them: Apply at least one actionable idea from every book you read.
Let’s not let the knowledge we acquire sit idle. Instead, let’s use it to create the life we envision.
Final Thoughts
In the next episode of Read with Avil, I’ll discuss a book that complements this theme of rich habits and success. The real value of a book lies not in reading it but in using its lessons to transform your life.
