Introduction: Top Drama App Scam
I signed up for Top Drama because it promised to pay me to watch short dramas. The Top Drama app scam looked harmless at first. My balance grew past C$1,194, and I never received one cent.
This post shares my story and my screenshots. It shows how these watch-to-earn apps work, why you should delete them, and how to report them.
How the App Hooks You
Top Drama gives you C$150 the moment you start. You cannot withdraw it. To cash out, you must first reach C$300.
That head start is a trick. You feel halfway there already, so you keep watching.
At first, rewards came fast. Each episode or ad paid about 40 cents. My balance climbed every few minutes, and it felt like easy money.
The app also shows a rotating banner of other users who withdrew cash. My screenshots show names like Amelia Ellis, Aria Jimenez, and Julie Nelson, each with a different amount. Mastercard and TD logos sit beside these names to borrow trust from brands you know.
The Slowdown Near C$300
When I was about $10 from C$300, the rewards changed. Instead of 40 cents, I earned 2 cents, then 5 cents, then 10 cents. Those last few dollars took forever.
I did not screenshot this part. Other users of similar apps describe the same thing, though. On one app, a user reached $265 of the $300 minimum, and every reward after that paid only one cent.
The slowdown has a purpose. You have already invested hours, so you push through the last stretch.
The Finish Line Moves
Finally, I reached C$300 and pressed Cash out. The app refused. It told me to check in for about eight more days.
Each check-in was not a simple tap. To count, it required me to watch around 25 ads. So I did that every day for eight days.
After the check-ins, I tried again. This time the app said I had not reached the right level. Only level 30 would unlock a withdrawal.
Nobody had mentioned levels before. The app did not show my current level. I had to dig around to learn I was at level 27 or 28.
Ten Million Ads to Level 30
Early levels needed about 200 ads each. Then the jump came. To move from level 29 to 30, the app asked me to watch 9,999,982 ads.
Let us do the math. If each ad lasts 30 seconds, that adds up to about 83,000 hours. You would need to watch for 9.5 years with no sleep and no breaks.
Meanwhile, the progress bar on the withdrawal page looked almost full. That bar exists to keep hope alive.
My balance kept growing. The wallet offers cash-out amounts up to C$1,600. None of these options matter when the lowest one is out of reach.
How the Scam Makes Money
Top Drama does not need your bank details to profit from you. Your time is the product. Every ad you watch earns the app money from advertisers.
Even the loading screen admits it. A small line warns that the app may show ads.
The rewards page also uses slot machine language, with 777 top prize labels. The C$ balance is not money. It is a score designed to keep you watching.
Other reviewers reached the same conclusion. One tester found that Top Drama keeps adding new requirements after users hit the payout threshold until they give up.
What Books Teach Us About This Scam
As the Book Queen, I look for lessons in what I read. Top Drama uses tricks that researchers and authors described years ago. When you know them, you spot the scam faster.
The C$150 head start is the endowed progress effect. In a well-known study, car wash customers received loyalty cards. Cards that came with two free stamps got finished more often than blank cards, even though both needed the same number of washes.
The rotating withdrawal banners use social proof. Robert Cialdini explains this in Influence. When we see others doing something, we assume it is safe.
The mystery reward boxes use variable rewards. Nir Eyal describes this in Hooked. Uncertain rewards pull us back more than fixed ones do.
Finally, eight days of check-ins feed the sunk cost fallacy. The more time we invest, the harder it becomes to walk away.
Warning Signs of Watch-to-Earn Scams
Check for these signs before you download any app that pays you to watch, play, or scroll.
- A large starting bonus you cannot withdraw.
- A high minimum cash-out amount.
- Rewards that shrink as you near the minimum.
- New conditions after you reach the goal.
- Hidden levels or unclear progress.
- Banners showing strangers who withdrew money.
- Bank and card logos with no proof of partnership.
- Offers to double a reward if you watch one more ad.
One sign is a warning. Two or more means you should walk away.
What to Do If You Already Signed Up
Stop watching. Before you delete the app, report it using the steps below.
If you linked PayPal, a bank account, or an email, watch those accounts for odd activity. Change any password you reused.
How to Report the Top Drama App
Reports help app stores find and remove scam apps. It takes about five minutes.
On an iPhone
Report the app before you delete it. Apple only lets you report apps you have installed.
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple Account.
- Choose the option to report a scam or fraud.
- Select Top Drama from your list of apps.
- Describe what happened, then submit.
On an Android phone
- Open the Google Play Store and find the Top Drama app page.
- Tap the three-dot menu, then tap Flag as inappropriate.
- Choose the reason that fits best, then tap Submit.
The in-app flag does not let you add comments. To give details or evidence, use Google's online Report Inappropriate Apps form instead.
In Canada
Report the scam to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. Call 1-888-495-8501 or report online at antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca. Their phone lines are often busy, so the online form may be faster.
Menu names can change slightly between app versions. You may see small differences on your phone.
What to Write When You Report the App
Short and factual reports work best. Describe what happened, give numbers, and mention your screenshots. Copy the template below and replace the parts in brackets.
I am reporting Top Drama as a scam. The app promises cash for watching dramas, but it blocks every withdrawal.
I reached the [amount] minimum withdrawal. When I tried to cash out, the app added new conditions that it never disclosed before. First, it required [number] days of check-ins, with about [number] ads per check-in. Then it said I must reach level 30.
The app now asks me to watch [number] ads to reach level 30. No person could ever do that. My balance shows [amount], and I cannot withdraw any of it.
The app also shows banners of other users who supposedly withdrew money, next to bank and card logos. I believe these banners are fake. I have screenshots of the balance, the level requirement, and the ad count.
Pick the Parts That Apply to You
Your experience may differ from mine. Keep only the lines that match what you saw, and add any of these details that fit.
- Rewards dropped to a few cents near the minimum.
- A starting bonus could not be withdrawn.
- Your level or progress was hidden or unclear.
- The app kept asking you to watch extra advertisements to double a reward.
Your own details make the report stronger. Specific numbers and screenshots help reviewers act faster.
For a public review
App store reviews should be even shorter. You can adapt this version.
Scam. The app never pays. After I reached the minimum withdrawal, it kept adding new rules, and now it wants me to watch millions of ads to cash out. Do not waste your time.
Why I Am Sharing This
Earlier, I wrote about work-from-home craft assembly scams I found on TikTok. Those ads often appear inside short dramas. Top Drama is another version of the same idea, and it targets people who want extra income.
Reading about persuasion is not enough. Knowledge only protects you when you apply it when it matters. Next time an app makes you an offer, stop and ask which trick it is using.
