.Introduction: The One by Kiera Cass
The One
by Kiera Cass is the third book in the Selection Series and you get to find out who the prince chooses to be his bride. What I like about the series is that it deals with some very serious issues that we face in the world. Issues such as abuse of power, discrimination, and violence. The Selection and The Elite are the other two books in the series. The Selection series is a for young adults.

The Story: The One by Kiera Cass

The rebels – the northerners – return, and this time, they want to speak to America and Prince Maxon. They show up at the palace because the king is away. August Illea, a descendant of Gregory. And his girlfriend, Georgia Whitaker have come to see the two.
They talk about what they want, but Prince Maxon is not in a position to give it to them. They have been watching the Selection process very closely. And they like America because of what he stands for. A friendship between Georgia and America begins.
As The One by Kiera Cass progresses, the Southern rebels have killed people. And at the next televised event, each member of the Elite has to give a message to the people. America tells them to fight back and the king is not very pleased about that.
He tells her that what she did isn’t smart. And she responds that the way things are going, he won’t have anyone to rule. Prince Maxon and America know that the king is hiding information. And they think their best opportunity to find out what’s really going on is to speak to the Northern rebels.

She asks Aspen to organize it for them, which he does. They discover that about 300 people from the number twos were killed by the Southern rebels. The Northern rebels are requesting arms. But Prince Maxon refuses because he is scared they will use them against him. While they are leaving, America gets shot by some other men. When they return to the palace, Aspen takes her to a small room. And Anne, one of her maids takes care of her injuries. It’s Prince Maxon who takes her to her room.

At lunch, she learns that the next week there will be a tea party at the palace. They are allowed to invite guests. America has to be strategic about who she invites because she wants to secure funding so the good rebels can get what they need. With this in mind, she decides to invite the Princess Nicoletta from Italy and Georgia, one of the leaders of the Northern rebels. So they could meet each other.
After the tea party, America learns that she has to participate in a Convicting ceremony, where she has to sentence someone who has committed a crime. As part of this ceremony, the prince gives each of the Elites expensive jewelry to wear at the event. She wants no part of the ceremony and tries to get out of it. But they will not allow her.
The king is setting her up. When she asks the criminal about his crime, she discovers that the crime doesn’t match the sentence. She out-maneuvers the king, by taking off her jewelry, giving it to the “criminal” to repay the king. The people are happy with how she deals with the situation. But the king is not pleased with her once again. He wants to start the Selection process again with a new batch of girls. However, Prince Maxon does not want that to happen.

Aspen and Lucy, one of her maids accompany her back home. While there, the family learns that she had a relationship with Aspen. She realizes that home is no longer home for her. America knows that she is going to have to tell Prince Maxon that Aspen is the person she talked to him about.
When America returns to the palace, she also figures out that Kriss supports the rebels and confronts her about it. Prince Maxon also proposes to her. They profess their love to each other. But she makes the mistake of not telling him about Aspen right away. The next day he finds out. And he is very unhappy about the deception, sending her home after another event at the palace.
During the event, the Southern rebels attack, killing Celeste because of her status as a two. Aspen pushes America’s chair over so she would be safe and shoots several of the rebels. Prince Maxon is injured. He tells Aspen to take America to a safe room, after once again professing his feelings for her. Later a guard releases her from the safe room. And shortly after, she collapses. The Northern rebels come to their assistance.
When she recovers, she learns that the king and queen are dead. Maxon is the new king. She finds him recovering in his room. And he shows her his plan for eliminating the caste system. He also proposes to her, and on her wedding day, all the people closest to her are there to share the happy occasion.
