Slow down and do things right!

Have you noticed the frenetic pace of life? It’s time to slow down and do things right. Every day we are bombarded with millions of messages – people are telling us to do this and to do that, and often we are not sure of what we should do. And on the other hand, many are saying the same things because we are living in a me-too world, and we are feeling pressured to jump on the me-too wagon. Yet we wonder why so many people are stressed in our society. It’s time to slow down and do things right. We are like hamsters on a wheel.
Each of us is involved in several communities, some of which may be at odds with each other. We have to keep up, so we are told, so that we do not get left behind. We want to do the right things, but what are they? We struggle to keep all the balls in the air, as a result, we do nothing right. In one of the communities that I am a member, we are supposed to meet every other month, but due to the rapid changes we were experiencing, we started to meet every month, and sometimes twice a month. We decided to slow down and do things right, because at that pace, how can one make well thought out decisions? Can you relate to that?
I find myself being pulled in many directions, and it is my responsibility do decide where I’d like to go. I have to slow down and do things right. That’s easier said than done, because no one wants to be left behind. But if we try to keep up with the rat race, where do we find time for reflection? When do we find time to evaluate the quality of our decisions? How do we determine if the goals that we have accomplished are the right goals for us? How do we know if we are doing the right things for us if we are always moving at the speed of light?
These are very important questions, and I cannot answer them for you, I can only answer them for myself. And even then, it will not be an easy thing to do. All I know at this point, is that I have to slow down and do things right, do the right things, and also do them better. The 80/20 Rule tells us that 20 percent of the things we do yield 80 percent of our results, but what is that 20 percent? If we are constantly rushing, we are not investing the time to discover which 20 percent of things will give us the greatest bang for our bucks. Slow down and do things right. Slow down and do the right things.
