Content: Female Force: Sheryl Sandberg – a Sheryl Sandberg Bio
Female Force: Sheryl Sandberg comic book is written in the first person, and you can read it in 30 minutes or less. In the book, there are specific statistics and other information that should be of interest to women. More women than men graduate from college. And more women graduate with professional degrees. Additionally, when women do a great job, they attribute their success to someone who helped them, and because they got lucky. On the other hand, when men do a great job, they attribute it to core skills.
From an early age, Sheryl Sandberg demonstrated leadership skills. One of the things she was known for is organizing everyone. It’s interesting that women who demonstrate these traits are called bossy, while men are called assertive. She graduated from Harvard with two degrees. After graduation, she worked with her thesis advisor, Larry Summers, who was the president of the World Bank. After working for Summers, she moved to McKinsey & Company in 1996. Once again, she went to work for Larry Summers, who was now Secretary of US Treasury. Sheryl Sandberg’s role was Chief of Staff.
In 2001, Sheryl Sandberg started working for Google. While there, she got them to earmark parking spot for pregnant employees. She became the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook in 2008. While there, she became well-known.
Although Sheryl Sandberg’s parents instilled in her that knowledge is important, they believed that marriage was more important. Because of that, she got married to Brian Kraff in 1993, but got a divorce the following year. Having an unsuccessful marriage made her feel like a failure. A decade later, in 2004, Sandberg married Dave Goldberg, a tech entrepreneur, who died last year. Sandberg advises women to date all kinds of men – the bad, the cool, the commitmentphobe – but not to marry them. She adds that you should find an equal partner, someone who supports women.
When Sheryl Sandberg met Dave Goldberg, he was very successful. She allowed her husband to manage all the money simply because she wasn’t interested. Before Dave died, they had specific areas of responsibility in the household, and they split childcare 50/50. In Female Force: Sheryl Sandberg, she emphasized that they didn’t keep score.
Mark Zuckerberg, the Founder and CEO of Facebook, views Sheryl Sandberg as his role model. When she started working at the company, she didn’t want to be perceived as being old, so she worked very long hours. She wasn’t able to have dinner with her family a lot, but Sandberg found a way to deal with that. She started leaving work at 5:30 pm, so she wouldn’t miss having dinner with her family.
Sheryl Sandberg had opportunities that most women will never have in their lives. But women have to do things differently. They have to approach their careers differently. Instead of thinking of your career as a ladder to climb, explore the jungle gym, where you do all kinds of moves. As women, there are many things that you cannot control in the workplace, but there are many things that you can control. Be proactive about your career, and if you are not invited to the table with the influencers and power brokers, find a way to invite yourself.
What would you do if you weren’t afraid?

If you have heard of Sheryl Sandberg, but do not know much about her, read Female Force: Sheryl Sandberg by Michael L. Frizell and Angel Bernuy. It’s a very short book and many will appreciate that it’s in comic book format.
Note: There is an error in the book, “A mere 4% of Fortune 500 companies are run by men. Women hold only 17% of all board seats with these companies.” Men should actually be women.
