From Reading to Reflection: A Strategic Look at 100 Book Insights

Why I Took on The 100 Day Project Again: 100 Book Insights

What happens when you read and reflect on 100 nonfiction books in 100 days? You don’t just consume knowledge. You become a different thinker. The 100 Day Project was a commitment to explore powerful ideas, and what emerged wasn’t just insight. It was a transformation. The project was a way for me to revisit books I’d already read and remember what I’d forgotten. It was also an opportunity for me to share some books off the beaten path and to share 100 book insights.

This Time Felt Different—Here’s Why

Today is day 100 of The 100 Day Project. It’s the fourth time I’ve taken part in and completed this project. This time around, it felt different, and more people seem to have benefited. Initially, I intended to provide book insights from new books I was reading. However, I decided not to place that kind of pressure on myself for a little payoff.

After much thought, I realized that I’d read many books that others would find valuable. Using ChatGPT as a partner, I came up with a format I thought would benefit others. In the past, my daily contributions were meaningful, but very time-consuming. This time, leveraging artificial intelligence, I could produce my posts a lot faster.

During the 100-Day Project, I was once asked if I’d read all the books. Yes, I read each book the old-fashioned way. Relying on AI for book summaries is risky. When I leveraged AI for this project, the input was my book notes. And there was a lot of back-and-forth with ChatGPT to get the results I wanted.

My Strategy for Tackling Big Projects Without Burning Out

Over the years, I’ve used the same process to complete large projects. I break the project into bite-sized pieces, so I don’t become overwhelmed. Because I read so much, I didn’t spend a lot of time on the books I’d present each day. The process was instinctual, letting my intuition guide me. This worked well for me, but I wouldn’t do this for other projects.

For other types of large projects, I do a lot more upfront planning. And I always break the project into stages, so I don’t get overwhelmed. This process has served me well when I worked on research, analysis, and writing projects. This is what I recommend to you.

Want to Try This Yourself? Start Small and Read Strategically

For someone who has never taken on a reading project of this size, I recommend you start off with 10 books in 10 days. That would be more workable for you. I teach the course, Applied Knowledge is Power, where you’ll learn how to read strategically, and applying the new knowledge is very important. I often say that reading a book and not applying the ideas is like spending all day in the kitchen preparing a five-course meal and not eating it. When you think about it, that makes no sense.

Strategic reading doesn’t compromise getting the important information from a book. You focus on the information that applies to you.

To get the most from this project, after reading the 10 books (or however many books you decide on), analyze the contents of the books in relation to each other. That’s where you’ll find the gold. And when choosing books, select ones that will benefit you. If you’d like to learn how to analyze the books in relation to each other, please message me through LinkedIn.

10 Lessons That Emerged from Sharing 100 Book Insights

For those who followed me every day, I’m sure you learned many lessons from the book insights I presented. Here are a few lessons.

  1. What you dwell on, you move toward.
  2. Cultivating a growth mindset is not optional. It’s foundational for leadership, creativity, and resilience.
  3. Creativity is a muscle. Work it often, and it gets stronger. You become more creative by making creativity a habit, not a hope.
  4. Own your time, or your distractions will.
  5. The best leaders are deeply self-aware and deeply committed to others.
  6. Consistency, not intensity, wins.
  7. Lead yourself with discipline, and others will follow your example.
  8. Speak to lead, not just to inform. Every word is an opportunity to move people.
  9. Talent opens the door. Practice walks you through it. And discipline keeps you there.
  10. Books don’t change your life. What you do with them does.

From Consumption to Contribution: What This Project Really Taught Me

This wasn’t a race to read 100 books in 100 days. It was a commitment to share, reflect, and repurpose what I had already read. Each post was an invitation to explore a powerful idea, to reconnect with a book that made an impact, or to discover something new.

What started as a creative challenge became a meaningful way to model strategic reading, build intellectual trust, and help others see how ideas can move from the page into action. This project wasn’t about consumption. It was about contribution.
