Star Wars Quotes to Inspire You and More Star Wars Stuff

star warsIt’s the Holiday Season, and I am taking it easy, preparing for the Read the World Challenge, as well as getting caught up on reading some of the books that I didn’t get around to. I didn’t want to ignore my blog for two weeks, so I asked myself, “What blog posts can I write that are easy to do?” The answer I came up with is Star Wars quotes to inspire you, but I wanted to do something more, so I went to Quora to see some of the questions that people are asking about Star Wars, then sprinkle a few of them between the quotes.

Star Wars

“'Star Wars' is fun, it’s exciting, it's inspirational, and people respond to that. It's what they want.” George Lucas

I was also curious to find out if Star Wars is based on a book, and here’s what I found on Google’s instant answer, which it pulled from Wikipedia.

“Credited to George Lucas, but actually ghostwritten by Alan Dean Foster, it was first published on November 12, 1976 by Ballantine Books. The book was based upon Lucas's original screenplay for the first Star Wars film.”

So, the book, Star Wars is based on the script written by George Lucas.

“Since Star Wars, that film's success led to bigger budgets, more hardware, that the great movies like the ones I did, which were studio movies, are now independent movies. They range from half a million to several million, and a lot of those have very interesting roles.” Faye Dunaway

“I think the first movie I ever saw was a ‘Star Wars' triple bill, when ‘Return of the Jedi' was released.” Richard Coyle

“My most memorable science fiction experience was ‘Star Wars' and seeing R2D2 and C3PO. I fell in love with those robots.” Cynthia Breazeal

“My entire generation has grown up in the shadow of one movie: ‘Star Wars.'” Harry Knowles

“None of us really understood exactly how much Star Wars would affect us for the rest of our lives.” Jake Lloyd

“I'm a big fan of ‘Star Wars.' Some of the most iconic characters of ‘Star Wars,' we didn't see their faces but to this day you can say Jabba the Hutt or Darth Vader and people know what you mean around the world.” Laz Alonso

Star Wars Questions and Answers on Quora

What is your fondest memory of growing up watching Star Wars: A New Hope?

“First of all, let's make one thing clear — It was NOT called “A New Hope” in 1977.   It was just Star Wars.   That abominable tag line got added later.

Now, here's my story.

In late May of 1977 I was 17 and working construction on a condo project north of Seattle.   One Monday (must have been the 30th), my co-worker comes in and as we were sanding the walls of one botched condo where they had incorrectly textured the dry-wall with orange peel he says to me, “I've just seen the best movie ever made.”

Bold statement, especially since he knew I was a movie buff and president of my college's film society even as a freshman.   I snorted my disbelief and said, “Oh yeah, tell me about it.”   “It's called Star Wars” he said, and then he proceeded to recount the entire movie shot by shot, reciting as much of the dialogue as he could remember.   He'd seen it twice on Sunday, waiting in a line so long it defied belief, then when he got out of his showing, he IMMEDIATELY got back in line and waited another couple of hours to watch it again….” Visit Quora for the rest of Mark Blanchard’s story.

Star Wars Quotes Continued

“As a child I always steered clear of science fiction, but in the autumn of 1977, the bow-wave of publicity for the first ‘Star Wars' movie had already reached me, so I was eager for anything science-fictional.” Philip Reeve

“I don't know if the '80s were unique, but we certainly got original, groundbreaking stuff at the time with movies like ‘Back to the Future' and ‘Star Wars' – movies that became classics.” Ernest Cline

“'Star Wars,' ‘Doctor Who,' ‘Forgotten Realms,' even ‘Firefly' and ‘The X-Files' have shared world novels and other media. I can't help but notice these settings have large shelf space in bookstores, so their publishers and authors are getting something right.” David Conyers

“For ‘Star Wars' I had to develop a whole new idea about special effects to give it the kind of kinetic energy I was looking for. I did it with motion-control photography.” George Lucas

“I do love ‘Star Wars,' although I'm not one of those crazy fans who knows everything about everyone.” Evangeline Lilly

“People are still asking me if I knew Star Wars was going to be that big of a hit. Yes, we all knew. The only one who didn't know was George.” Carrie Fisher

“'Star Wars' is populated by so many great types; who wouldn't want to be a Han Solo kind of dude?” Ben Mendelsohn

“Even to this day, when I think about the fact that I'm in this ‘Star Wars' world, that I'm a half-brother to Darth Vader and an uncle to Luke Skywalker, it's too hard to wrap my head around.” Joel Edgerton

Star Wars Question and Answer on Quora

What story should be told in Star Wars Episodes VII, VIII & IX?

Of the many responses, London Rook, wrote:

“Well, with due respect to the fans of the Extended Universe, Star Wars has been plagued with a number of sub par books that have catered to the whims of a nerd elite.  Rather than remain accessible to a mass audience.  The vast majority of Extended Universe material just simply isn't all that enticing.  A cynical person would call it a money grab.

The Force Unleashed provides a good example of squandered possibilities.  We were promised a story that would show the inception of the Rebel Alliance, a spot that was sorely lacking from Episode III, yet the wealth of material that could be mined from that was turned into DLC packs which played musical chairs with beloved characters in an alternate universe….” Visit Quora for the rest of the answer.

“The first ‘Star Wars' film was enormously important. I grew up right smack-bang in the sweet spot of all of those. It's true cinema magic. It's fair to say that, as a kid, I would have been very happy to be Han Solo, and I would have been happy to have gone out with Princess Leia.” Ben Mendelsohn

“I think over the course of 14 films, I'm returning to a place that I know to tell a story… the same way Spielberg returned to fantasy, Lucas returned to the ‘Star Wars' saga, or John Ford returned to the western.” Gus Van Sant

“'Star Wars' is something that I've been a fan of since I was a kid – I played all the video games and I grew up reading ‘Star Wars' books.” Samuel Witwer

“I did like ‘Star Wars' when I was a kid. I saw the prequels first; I didn't see the full original films first all the way through.” Domhnall Gleeson

“'Star Wars' is different to anything I've done before.” Domhnall Gleeson

“Come on, guys, I am a computer nerd. I love Hollywood and movies. My whole life is like a movie. I wouldn't be who I am if it wasn't for the mind-altering glimpse at the future in ‘Star Wars.'” Kim Dotcom

“When I was a kid, ‘Star Wars' was it. Like, it's in your DNA. I'm old enough to have seen the original one.” Freddie Prinze, Jr.

“I appreciate both… for me, I think ‘Star Wars' is more science fantasy and is based on a lot of great legendary heroes and morality plays and stuff. And ‘Star Trek' is just pure fun. Pure science fun. And I've always appreciated both.” Ming-Na Wen

“Watched Star Wars in 77 and that's when I got into watching films. I was just blown away by it.” Debra Wilson

“Science offers no brief for the telekinetic powers of Darth Vader and hardly any greater justification for the faster-than-light travel that makes his empire possible. And yet what is ‘Star Wars' if not pure quill SF?” Paul Di Filippo

“If there was any show I could guest star on, I would want to guest star on ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars' because I am such a nerd and I love that show. If there was ever an opportunity to be on that, I would snatch it up.” Atticus Shaffer

“I believe that this idea of story or myth or this thing that Joseph Campbell writes about is sort of an inter-connective spiritual force – like The Force in ‘Star Wars' – where it doesn't matter where you were raised, or what your background is, there are certain elements of story that totally appeal to you.” Damon Lindelof

“I was four years old when I saw ‘Star Wars', and it has been significantly important throughout my entire life.” Seth Green

“I can't remember a time when I wasn't inspired by ‘Star Wars.'” Tony DiTerlizzi

I like ‘Star Wars.' I mean, I don't go to the conventions and dress up like Obi-Wan Kenobi or anything, but I like watching the movies. Mackenzie Rosman

“'Star Wars' is a grand soap opera, and ‘Star Trek' is about technology, they tried to explain the reality of it, as far-fetched as it might be. And that's why I've always liked the science behind the fiction.” Robert Kazinsky
