2011 Books for Mentoring

Reading gives me great pleasure, so I spend a lot of time indulging myself. I also find that I am mentored by the books that I read, even novels, and books often shape my thinking. I try to read many different genres in a quest to be more creative in my thinking. I recently discovered that the books that I read were not as diverse as I thought, if you look at where the authors originate from. A Journey of a Thousand Miles Starts Beneath One’s Feet

What does Lao Tzu’s famous quotation “A journey of a thousand miles starts beneath one’s feet” really mean? It suggests that you get started, you take action, that’s simple enough, but is there a deeper meaning? I gave myself a summer project to read through as many classics as I could since I did not study English literature or world literature for that matter in university. Review: Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu

This passage is from Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu, a guidebook of Chinese philosophy and tenets to live by. Lao Tzu lived in the 6th century BC and is believed to be a contemporary of Confucius. Tao Te Ching is comprised of 81 wisdom teaching, so it’s a short book to read. I’m always amazed at how books written centuries ago still have relevance for us in our lives today.
