Don’t Care So Much About What Others Think

For 2010, don’t care so much about what others think of you. I am saying this to you and to myself. For the past few years I have cared too much about what others thought of me and the result is that it held me back and prevented me from being me, and from taking more chances. This is an important lesson because when we have so much invested in what others think, we do not take as many risks.

Where would the world be if the innovators of yesterday held themselves back because they cared so much about what others thought of them?

Move forward boldly where no being has been before.

What are you thoughts? Do you spend a lot of time thinking about how people will react instead of taking action. Let’s keep the conversation flowing, please comment. Many readers read this blog from other sites, so why don’t you pop over to The Invisible Mentor and subscribe (top on the left side) by email or RSS Feed. WOW, I’m so glad you brought this up. This is my biggest restraint in life. I have others, but this one takes the cake. I have always been way too concerned about what others think. This has kept me from speaking up, from doing things I’d like to do. It has kept me from being me. I’ve done this for so long that I’m not really sure who I really am. I started seeing a counselor a few months ago to help me along in this area. I’d appreciate further blogs on this topic. Thanks, Lynn

      Hi Lynn,

When I look back I realize that over the last few years I was overly concerned about what others thought of me and recently I decided to simply let go. And it is interesting that recently while reading a blog post the author said that what others think about you is none of your business. I thought about that statement and it made sense to me.

Acknowledging the issue and taking the steps to remedy the situation shows me that you want to make a change. Thank you for taking the time to comment. What do others think, I would love to know. Please chime in.

Personally I don’t understand why you would feel like that. You wrote two books after all; and that took alot of personal courage.

If you cared a lot it’s because you have a generous heart

whatever the reason, the idea you need to revisit your own behavior is another example that you take the risks required and the guts to follow through

Thanks Mireille! I am my worst critic and the change in me happened over the past three years caring about what people think of me. I decided it doesn’t quite work for me and holds me back. I have accomplished a lot and I need to focus on that instead. Thanks for the reminder. Avil
